Hunters Hill

This project provided us with a challenge to design a simple home that took in views of the Mann River whilst maximising the northern sun into the living areas in the cool Glen Innes region. The project was to be powered by a stand alone solar system housed on the adjacent shed.

We chose a rustic brick to blend in with the scattered timber on the block and insulated the building envelope all round including under floor insulation. Double glazed windows were chosen to assist in keeping the home warm in winter. 

The result was a comfortable home that powered itself, with some assistance in winter from the wood fire. The large double glazed windows brought the outside in and the wide rear deck was an excellent place for a BBQ.

Utilised as self contained farm accomodation - "Platypus Bend Riverside Retreat" - all guests mentioned how comforatble the house was to live in.
